The beginning of the year is normally a time to attend to scheduled maintenance; work in the wood lots; add plantings to wildlife set-asides; check and refresh the wood duck boxes etc. It is also the time of year when there are many conferences we could attend. This month, for example, we participated in the Northern Neck Crop Conference organized by our local Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, and the quarterly meeting of the Common Grain Alliance, held at the Next Step Produce farm in Newburg, MD. In addition, David was a panelist for the session discussing “Bringing Grains to the Local Table” at the 21st Annual conference of CASA (Chesapeake Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture).
